The Black Knight is a gothic, intense, sophisticated perfume inspired by the historical character Giovanni Dalle Bande Nere (John of the Black Bands), an Italian mercenary captain of the Renaissance. The perfume tries to depict the atmosphere of a military camp, starting with the smell of wild shrubs, then the smoke of camp fire and the odor of horse tacks. The fragrance then evolves, delving deeper with a powdery rose rounding up the deep core made of vetiver.

The vetiver in this is a bit challenging for me, but I crave this scent! Since I’ve gotten it, I’ve worn it several times a week, even though I have around eighty fragrances. The vetiver is kind of harsh, but everything else in this fragrance is beautiful. It’s mainly a worn, but polished leather (I think vetiver and oak moss lend to the “polish”), smooth buttery orris, honey and beeswax, some patchouli and rose shows through as well. I hadn’t noticed it, until I was talking to a friend...who picked it up immediately...that there is a metallic note in it as well. It’s interesting, not mass appealing, but stunning imo.
