Pianist and composer, Gershwin produced an astonishing and immensely rich body of work, including Jazz, 33 classical operas, seven movie soundtracks and more than 700 songs. His work inspired Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Madonna and Sting to mention a few have followed.
Maria Candida Gentile chose citrus essences to represent the heart and soul of Gershwin. These natural essences come from the Capua brothers on the Italian Island of Sicily who have 120 year history of producing the purest essential oils, all natural.

Lots of assorted citrusy notes, quite bitter, like grapefruit, lemon, with prominent pepper, and woody incense background. Sharp citrusy notes are well balanced with pepper, wood, later some clove appears with slight floral note mellowing it all down.

Sweet orange, soft sandalwood incense and a sharp black pepper. I like Exultat more for a sweeter, more complex incense & citrus blend, but this one is still lovely.

What I love about all of Maria’s perfumes is that they present a form of storytelling through the sense of smell. This perfume, although not a scent I might wear day-to-day, is a great example of this. It’s an experience in a bottle, and its fun to imagine what setting or person this smell might belong to.
Considering the namesake of this perfume, this is what I imagine while wearing it: a smoky little club that plays Gershwin’s early hits is painted by Sunday morning. Red sunlight streams through the murky windows, and a solitary figure is cleaning the wood floors and bar with a rather pungent, citrusy wax. Echoes of the previous night’s merrymaking remain, not yet dissipated by the new day. After his work is complete, the man sits alone in the pews of a church and is enveloped by soft incense and a silent calm.
This perfume is very meditative and soothing, and I suppose that’s why it reminds me of those early hours in the morning when you’re alone with your thoughts, before the rest of the world has risen from its slumber.

This scent is crisp, light, wearable and unique. I cannot get enough of it. Though the nose is definitely characterized by citrus it is not sweet or sharp rather uplifting and sophisticated. The pink pepper corn really ties all the notes together very nicely and the lingering scent of sandalwood and incense are modernized by the presence of clove. I am totally in love!
