Barry Lyndon was inspired by the novel of the same name, written by W. M. Thackeray in the 19th century of an Irish rogue born to a poor but genteel family who rose to the heights of European society. He traveled all over Europe in this picturesque and engaging novel.
Maria Candida Gentile has chosen very special and rare Lavender, the Stoechas Lavender as one of the key ingredients only found in the Alpine Mountains and grows 8000 feet above sea level to evoke for her fragrance Barry Lyndon. Artemisia herb is also part of composition, and is known as the "green sorcerer", loved by artists including Vincent Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec, Charles Baudelaire and Edgar Allan Poe.

Lavender for 21st century women
I love this. Most lavender perfumes either remind me of my Dad (no bad thing in itself, and a fine aroma for my lover, but not for me), my great-grandmother, or air freshener. This is something altogether else. Lavender, vanilla, and (to my nose) something smoky, but perhaps that's the leather. Sprayed on clothing, lasts a full working day and is entirely office appropriate.

Favorite lavender
This is my favorite lavender fragrance. I wear it all of the time and also love it on my husband. It's a thick, heavy, creamy, dark lavender, sweetened with vanilla and breezy heather, darkened with leather and vetiver. Sweet, dark and sensual. One of the best takes on lavender.

Beautiful, dark lavender.
The lavender and vanilla in Barry Lyndon is creamy, cool, and slightly sweet. It's a smooth, dark, creamy lavender instead of a very herbal or bright lavender. Underneath that gorgeous lavender & vanilla, I can smell hints of black leather. I find this to be very unisex, and the smooth lavender & black leather combo is very sexy and intriguing to me.

interesting enough to buy....
.....but I don't love it the way I love Exultat and Finisterre. There is nothing like Barry Lyndon- yet it has a familiarity I can't place. It isn't a perfumey scent- it is more in line with something you would smell outdoors- something in passing that would catch your attention and make you pause and look around to identify what smelled so wonderful. It is as close to the elusive and gorgeous scent of petrichor as anything I have ever smelled and that is why I bought it. But like petrichor, it isn't consistent, it floats to and fro. When it isn't that, it is a comfortable warm gallbanum scent. Nice. When it is petrichor it is a dream come true.

Like windblown curls and a muddy hem
Barry Lyndon is medicinally green with a touch of wildflowers, soft leather and vanilla. The first whiffs seem indisputably masculine, but as the scent develops I find a raw, untamed femininity in the notes. This is equal parts Catherine and Heathcliff to my nose. I will probably end up buying a bottle of this to get through wintertime, when I’ll be longing for all things pungent and green. On me the longevity is about 4 hours and the sillage is soft. Lasts longer on clothing and in hair.
